This post is short and sweet and outlines the 4 aspects of creating a positive learning environment which are a positive approach, punishment, motivation and self-control. By breaking up motivation into 3 different components you’ve outlined the different parts of learning that motivation affects such as the decision to undergo training, the intensity of the training and how committed a student is to their training. One thing that I’ve learned however was from the self-control aspect of the teacher learner relationship. In terms of a training environment, encouraging goes a longer way than saying that a player is perfect and in a game sense, putting less pressure on a performer works better than saying, as you mentioned; “you’ve been training all year for this” as it creates pressure and anxiety and this may cause players to perform worse than normal. Overall this short and sweet post was very helpful in my own learning; it could have been longer and expanded on the other points but it was still good, keep up the good work!

- John

Re: Home

Hey guys,

I couldn't comment directly on it, but my response is to your break down of the Creating a positive Environment reading. A stand out point for me was the emphasis on coaches not putting pressure on players. From personal experience I can personally confirm and agree that a coach putting pressure on a player only causes stress and anxiety, and in more cases than none, the result is a poor performance. I feel this strongly relates to one of the chapters by Cassidy that explains how much emotion is involved in educating in general, but coaching in particular. A good educator does not let emotion get the better of them, but uses it to the best of their ability to spark motivation in their players. Emotion plays a big part not just in educating/teaching/coaching, but from a player/student perspective as well. Again, as you clearly stated in your breakdown of the reading, a coach can have a huge influence on a players performance purely by influencing their emotions, and inflicting stress and anxiety in the player.

I like your statement that educators and learners need to control the controllable. This of course relating to both players and coaches (or even teachers and students) as we all know it plays a huge part in educating and by controlling what we can control such as emotions, there is a much higher chance of having a positive result such as a good perfomance which can boost confidence and create that positive environment for both the educator and the learner.

Awesome break down of the reading, it really deepened my understanding of the relationship between learner and educator, and the effect one can have on the other.

Cheers,
Emma.
(AKA Aunty Em)

Re: Celeb COlLabs — Where Greymen LiveGrey

Salute

Re: About

Dear cat lover,

Thanks for visiting :). I am sure they must've done a lot of work in the years preceding the construction of the building. It's connected to another island by a strip of land. Not sure if it makes it any easier. However, such construction is relatively commonplace here. But then the Dutch are legendary with how they deal with water. It's now on the map: https://www.google.nl/maps/...

And I just realised that the thing in front of my house that I thought to be a river all these years, is actually a lake! http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

Re: Photoblog: Photo #47 – The view from IJdok

That should be cool. I spotted it only when I had posted it on the blog and was quite surprised!

Winter here was mild and the spring came early this year. This could mean two things - a hot summer or a summer as mellow as the winter. I guess you know what I'd prefer. We'll see :). Barbeques and gardening equipment is already seeing a good deal of use here. As for bicycles, they never quite get un-deployed - but then the snow here (if we get some) falls in centimetres not in feet :)

Re: Photoblog: Photo #41 – Amsterdam Spring (2014)

Yes.
